Dr Luke Wells-Smith

Dr Luke Wells-Smith of Motion Equine Podiatry Consulting

Motion EPC was formed by Dr Luke Wells-Smith at the start of 2017. The company is an evolution of Luke’s passion and dedication to foot care in the Australian horse industry. Luke has had a keen interest in farriery at age 15 when he shod his first horse in rural South Australia. He graduated from James Cook University as a veterinarian in 2010 and has continued to develop his skills and knowledge in farriery and equine veterinary science by attending foot related conferences and visiting podiatry practices both in Australia and the United States.

Veterinary Podiatry Life

Luke has worked in only equine veterinary practices in Victoria, South Australia, Queensland and New South Wales. In 2012, Luke was employed by the Equine Podiatry and Lameness Centre, part of the Scone Equine Group, as an equine veterinary podiatrist in Muswellbrook, New South Wales. The Equine Podiatry and Lameness Centre is situated in the heart of Australia’s Thoroughbred breeding industry, the Hunter Valley, and backed by a large team of equine veterinary specialists at the Scone Equine Hospital. The practice progressed rapidly under the mentorship of Dr Joanne Holt, Wayne ‘Link’ Baumann and the rest of the team at the Equine Podiatry and Lameness Centre.

The role of the equine veterinary podiatrist here in Australia has evolved to encompass many geographical locations, working with farriers and veterinarians throughout the country. Luke established Motion EPC to strive for improved hoof care throughout the Australian horse industry. The use of 3D design and additive manufacturing along with new hoof mapping and diagnostic modalities will help in the evolution of equine veterinary podiatry at Motion EPC
